While I am very impressed after teaching for 3 years in Japan's public school systems, there should still be room to change teaching tactics and methods.

via vimeo.com Along the lines of Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story, this film examines the interglobal economic system and how it's designed to subjugate and subvert. Makes it that much easier to understand how we're all screwed just for being consumers in this system... and how 90% of the world's economy is nonexistent. Thanx @dshype3 for this eye-opening tweet.

via Personalize Media This lil' app is a tracker showing how many people are using social media right now and what they’re doing. It’s definitely cool, and really shows the power of social media. It also shows mobile device counts and games-- just click the titles in the upper right there. Interesting, eh? Glad I got into the online multimedia field-- looks like I'll at least be able to have a bowl o' rice and some place to sleep for a while longer... LOL.

I know this is an iPad oriented article-- but this paragraph just applies to SO MANY people I encounter daily. Change / Resistance x Ignorance = Devolution. ...It's important to understand who these people are. They're the same kind of people who said automobiles are just a fad, who said nobody wants to hear movie actors talk, who said graphical computing isn't real computing. They believe themselves to be enlightened skeptics. In fact, they're just the kind of people that always come out of the woodwork when...

via treehugger.com A few months ago, I was discouraged that my simple act of asking individuals to shut off their engines was not having enough impact. My 'new to Canada' neighbour especially drives me crazy as he runs his diesel fuelled GMC extended van every morning for 20 minutes no matter what the weather. We've had a few delightful confrontations which usually end with him yelling: "You, woman, go in house. I do what I want!" He even pounds his chest. I'm not kidding. That's when I decided to produce an...

TOKYO - Japan's top Internet forum 2channel was offline Tuesday after an apparent mass hacker attack from South Korea over slanderous comments on their Olympic figure skating queen Kim Yu-Na. South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that more than 10,000 users had launched a "concerted cyber offensive" and coordinated their attacks through web communities since Monday against the popular site www.2ch.net. The site, launched in 1999, allows users to post comments on hundreds of topics, from politics and sports...

Pay no attention to the foreign characters or language unless you understand them. Instead, focus on the dreadlocked gentleman on the left. You'll notice his outfit looks just a little different than his teammates'. That's snowboarder Kazuhiro Kokubo. He's apologizing at the end of the clip because Japanese officials aren't too happy with the way he wore his suit. With his sagging pants, untucked shirt, and loosened tie, Kokubo looked like any sloppily dressed 21-year-old. But that's not going to fly. According...

via youtube.com This ish happens for real. Even in Twenty-Ten. It's a lil' less than it used to be, but sometimes its still there. I tend to brush things aside as just sheer innocent ignorance (hey I live in Japan where I know some people have never seen a black man in person before--they have no clue what to think except what TV has told them, right?) But in America, nobody gets a pass.... We've been here for 400+ years. We ain't goin' nowhere. Most folks are cool... 99.8%. I love y'all for it too...

Welcome to my hometown, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Home of 300,000 souls, and the worst crime per capita stats in the USA. I've only lived here 13 out of 32 years in my life, mostly before I was even a teen. Even still, most of my family lives there, and I worry about them. I have a brother in jail now--partly due to being raised in this environment I feel. Although 98% of the blame is on him, I also feel that extra 2% is St. Louis' fault. The city is overrun by violence on both sides. Criminals who shoot without...

image from tamegoeswild @ flickr This is the last time that I put on a suit and commute across Tokyo on the rush hour trains - and I am very happy! I'll be leaving the company I've worked at since returning to Japan a year ago, and joining a local publishing / media company www.whiterabbitpress.com - they're the folks who produce the world's no.1-selling kanji flash cards, kanji poster, and who recently have started producing audio tours of Tokyo (Kabukicho and Akihabara so far). You might...
