why having a long commute sometimes sucks

as some of you know, I commute on the train about an hour between my home and work in the Tokyo metropolis. it's not a bad commute, and since I'm not driving, I sleep, read books or play games on my phone while the train speeds on. Sometimes it sucks though. Like when it snows the night before and they don't decide to cancel classes until AFTER I'm on the train...
